Mercedes-Benz 450 SL

Production of the first R107 started in April 1971 at the same time as the last generation W113 models. US models sold between 1976 and 1979 used the Bosch K-Jetronic system, an all mechanical fuel injection system. All models in the US used the 4.5 liter engine and were called the 450 SL/SLC.

In September 1977, the 450 SLC 5.0 was added to the range. This was a special version of the large coupe with a new all-aluminium 5-litre V8, aluminum doors, hood and trunk lid.

From 1980 American cars were equipped with lambda control. The 450SL and 450SLC models were discontinued in 1980 with the introduction of the 380 and 500SLC.
