The classic Volvo Amazon
The Amazon is a mid-size car manufactured by Volvo Autos between 1956 and 1970, introduced in the US as the 122S at the New York International Auto Show in April 1959.
The Volvo Amazon received the same wheelbase as well as large stature and high H-point as its predecessor and had 3 model configurations: two-door sedan, four-door sedan and wagon. In 1959 Volvo provided front seat belts as standard equipment on all their vehicles, including the export models. When the car was introduced it was called the "Amason", but the German motorcycle manufacturer Kreidler had already registered this name. Ultimately, the 2 companies agreed that Volvo could only use the name in their own country, provided the name was changed to Amazon.
The Amazon was originally produced at Volvo's Lundby factory in Gothenburg and then at Torslandaverken. By the end of production, Volvo had produced 667,791 Amazon cars: 234,653 4-door models, 359,917 2-door models and 73,220 station wagons.
