1954 Jaguar XK120 Fixed Head Coupe
The 1954 Jaguar XK120 Fixed Head Coupe is a prime example of Jaguars quality engineering and timeless design. Unlike the Roadster, which offered no protection from the elements, and the DHC models that offered 2-season driving, the FHC provided drivers with a year-round car that was not only stylish and powerful, but also affordable. The FHC was available at a fraction of the cost when compared to the DHC and Roadster, and was still less than a 3rd of the price of the most comparable Ferrari. Its 3.4 liter water-cooled inline-6 engine offered 160hp and a 0-60 time of less than 12 seconds. The Jaguar XK120 was capable of reaching a top speed of more than 120mph. While the 1954 Jaguar FHC is significantly more rare than the Roadster and the DHC, it can be found today at a fraction of the cost of similar convertible XK120 cars.
Looking to purchase a classic Jaguar?
There are a few things that should be inspected on the 1954 Jaguar XK120 Fixed Head Coupe prior to buying one. As with all classic Jaguars, check for rust. Most XK120 cars will show some type of body panel rust, which can be difficult to fix yet doable. Keep this in mind and always inspect the car on a lift. Mechanically, the 3.4 liter engines were powerful, strong and well designed. On the early XK engines, be sure to check the main seals, as well as the original steel shim head gaskets. Also remember that these XK120 Fixed Head Coupe models were outfitted with very large steering wheels and lacked power steering.
