1959 Mercedes Benz 220SE Ponton
The Ponton was the 1st series of cars produced after World War II by Daimler-Benz, and was the successor to the 220A. Produced on the W128 chassis, the 1959 Mercedes Benz 220SE Ponton was a six-cylinder available in a sedan, coupe or cabriolet body style. With design roots dating back to the 1953 Mercedes 180 sedan, the 1959 220SE Ponton featured a unitized body frame construction and fully impendent suspension. All models were fitted with a 2.2L straight-6 gasoline engine with aluminum head, overhead camshaft and Bosch mechanical fuel injection. Perhaps one of the most highly desired collectors cars among Mercedes enthusiasts, the limited production – only 1942 units throughout the production – makes this car even more sought-after.
Looking to purchase a Classic Mercedes?
If you’re considering buying a 1959 Mercedes Benz 220SE Ponton, you’ve come to the right place. Of the 1942 models produced, 1112 of these were the Cabriolet style and only 830 units were the highly desired Coupe models. Knowing which model you are interested in will greatly determine the price range you should expect for these cars. Buyers should also know that while these are excellent collectors cars, the 1959 Mercedes 220SE is a very rugged car that would make a great occasional driver or even a second daily-driver.
