1962 Mercedes Benz 220SE W111
The initial W111 sedan line from Mercedes Benz introduced in 1959 was a graceful evolution of the Mercedes Ponton. The new W111 sedans were only a bit larger than the current American compacts such as the Buick Special. The Mercedes Benz 220SE had many similar features to the Mercedes Ponton models. For example crumple zones, a rigid passenger structure, a uni-body construction and a rubber-isolated sub frame.

The 1962 Mercedes Benz 220SE W111 was very clearly Americanized. Many critics of the day noted the car was designed to pull in American buyers.
